Guy Jeffery has been at it again. After a very successful visit to the Royal in Fredericton recently, he submitted two covers. The first is a great domestic cover showing a strip of three of the 1¢. The left stamp showing 1F8.1s2 and providing us with a date for this CPV. The second cover, to the US is franked with the earliest reported example of 6F2.1 from position A-66.
Previously, he had sent me two examples of a new 3¢ CPV - 3F1.24, a scratch in the 'CE' of Cents.
Guy is back at it with two more great additions to our growing list of Constant Plate Varieties reported on stamps of the Small Queen issue. First up is an interesting flaw which shows marks on the Queen's neck and in the 'NT' of Cents of the 2¢ ~ 2F18.3. This was quickly followed by the report of a very strong scratch in the lower portion of the 3¢ ~ 3F19.3.
Hold the press...Guy just sent along another: 3F2.17 shows a strong 'blob' like plate flaw in the bottom margin, just below the right '3'.
Teamwork within our community has allowed us to establish another plate position for a CPV.
In November 2023, Guillaume introduced us to a new CPV on the 5¢ Small Queen. While I was searching for an additional example of that discovery, I found the first example of yet another 5¢ CPV, 5F1.5, which was quickly confirmed by Guy who has a second example. Recently Guy found a third example on eBay and purchased it. This 3rd one is interesting because it shows a small portion of the imprint at the bottom.
And now we come full circle with Guillaume. After seeing Guy's imprint copy, he checked his holdings and found the same CPV in a bottom margin block of 8, showing a complete Type V imprint and the variety at position 96.
It is thought that there were a total of three panes from which this block originated. There was a single 100-position plate followed by a plate with 2 X 100-position panes. Each pane had a single Type V imprint at the bottom.
There are only a few Small Queen CPVs that have been plated. This is a real accomplishment.
