The Major Re-entry

This variety is technically a 'double transfer' and not a 're-entry', but the latter term is very commonly used. The doubling at the top of the design occurred during the single plate's production and not in a later, re-entring process. This doubling has been found on stamps from the very first printings to the last printings. It was not repaired.Jan. 2, 1875 (Lot 1695, Maresch sale 375)
